The Yomelelani ECD Centre hosted a water conservation project across four days, teaching dozens of children about where water comes from, how it gets to their taps, and crucially how they can help to save water in their everyday lives at home and at the centre.

The aim of the project was to increase awareness of the need to save water in light of the water shortages in Cape Town and across South Africa.

As well as learning valuable tips on saving and recycling water, the children also wrote songs using key words from their lessons to reinforce what they had learnt. As ever, their performances were a real highlight!

The owners of Dutchies Restaurant, Joke Gonggrijp and her son Daan, hosted a magical dinner under the Milkwood trees at Grotto Beach on Friday 16th February in aid of Yomelelani.

We’ve put together a short video showing some of the highlights of the evening.

An example of these teaching techniques is this next video, which looks like lunchtime but is in fact an English lesson where Jello is being handed out to help the children’s interest and memory.

This basic maths lesson was more practical than usual……measuring ingredients.  The bread was taken home afterwards.  These 3 to 5 year olds produced a perfect product.
